[Overdue Update (or, Niki is a Lazy Bum)]

Greetings, one and all! I know, I’m looong overdue for an update—when was the last one, March? Pitiful.

I apologize, especially to those who’ve directly asked me what’s going on. Blame it on laziness, illness, and simple uncertainty. I haven’t felt much like letter-writing for awhile (for evidence, see how long it’s been since I wrote blog entry!), and I’ve been sick with allergies, sinus infections, and chest viruses most of the spring. I got over it, and it all came back two days ago. Bleh. Also, probably the biggest reason, I didn’t have much in the way of news, at least not in the concrete sense. I had a lot of maybes, possiblies, and part-times, and I simply didn’t feel secure enough to write everyone and say, “Guess what I’m going to do—maybe!!!” Even now, I don’t feel certain enough to eliminate “more than likely” and “I hope” from the news terminology.

On the job front:I’m currently working about 4 days per week at Reeds Spring and Branson schools as a substitute. I’m mostly working with high school and middle school, though yesterday I subbed for an adorable second grade class, several of whom hugged me before they left and asked when I would sub again. How cute is that? However, as I’m sure you know, substituting doesn’t really cut it for a full-time job—after all, what about insurance? Well, subbing serves as a way to save up for *dun dun dunnnn* grad school! I’m nearly officially going to Missouri State this fall (40 minutes from home) to get an MA in English and hopefully eventually become a professor. As it turns out, I have more of a teaching character than I was aware of, or rather, than I was willing to admit. Hey, I never claimed to not be stubborn!

Meanwhile, my dog Sassy and my cousin Karyl’s dog Fancy, who we’re watching while she recovers from stroke and heart surgery, are most of the rest of my amusement these days. They have something just like a big-sister—little-sister rivalry/adoration relationship going on. Fancy worship Sassy, and Sassy can’t get far enough away from Fancy. Needless to say, many amusing incidents occur every day.

Well, I, um, guess that's all I have for now. Until next time!

It's so good to hear from you, friend! Glad that you're doing well and keeping busy. I've been praying for your allergies and whatnot. :) I shall keep up the effort until you are well again, and then I'll pray that you stay well! I'm glad that you're enjoying teaching so much, too. I'm sure you're awesome at it. Congrats on your acceptance into the Masters program, too. Awesomeness. You are my hero and I heart you.
