[208 Newsbeat]

Coming to you live from the living room at Hillbilly Drive!!!

In local news, the bees are buzzin', the trees are buddin', and the sinuses are stuffin'. Neighborhood citizen Niki reports that her allergies have reached an all-time record high. "Nothing I take makes a bit of difference. I only wish it were simply a stuffed up nose... instead, my chest is congested, and I can't even hear out of my right ear. That's absolutely optimal, of course, for my hotel front desk clerk position," she smiles wryly.

And now, for the education report. On Thursday, the Cox family was delighted to receive, not one but TWO acceptance letters from Niki's top picks for graduate school. While all agree this is a significant step in the right direction, only time (and finances) will tell which school she will choose. The budding student tells reporters that her decision will be based on whether or not Truman awards her a graduate teaching and research assistantship to cover her tuition. Otherwise, she plans to gird up her loins and live at home, commuting to Missouri State daily, a forty-plus minute drive. All prayers are asked to be directed to heaven--and all will be appreciated.

Meanwhile, the Cox economy is on the rise at last as the young job seeker has begun three jobs. Niki now works as a front desk clerk at the nearest Best Western, putting in the rather exhausting hours of 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday night. During the week, Niki sits by the phone, hoping to hear from one of two local schools at which she is signed up to substitute.

Finally, a follow-up story. Two weeks ago, we shared with all Facebook readers a sad story of an aging dog struggling to breathe. Today, we are overjoyed to report that Sassy, while still clearly showing her age, is back in her role of neighborhood alpha dog. We here at the house remain painfully aware of her ever-shortening days, but we are nonetheless relieved to have a little more time left with the most unique and intelligent dog we have ever known.

That's all we have for tonight, folks. Tune in next time, when we bring you the long-awaited report on which school Niki has choosen to earn her Master's degree. Until then, this is me, signing off, and wishing you and yours many happy and healthy days.

[Speedy Overview]

Ok, I'm going to post a brief update, since I haven't had the time nor health to sit down and write a full one.

Job news:
I have 3 now: 2 substituting jobs that bring me work about, oh, once per week; and 1 hotel front desk job working Saturday and Sunday nights from 12-8 a.m. Tonight I'm going for a 3 hour training session. Wish me luck on this one.

School news:
I've applied at Truman and Missouri State (well, I'm finishing up with this one). Admission to Truman sounds promising, but getting the financial aid I need is less than so, at least according to a professor I checked with--too many very qualified applicants. MSU, well, I still have to finish that up. Yeah, pitiful update, I know.

Health news:
I'm currently getting over an upper respiratory viral infection, compounded with allergies, a sinus infection, and the stomach flu. I'm feelin' a little broken down, to say the least.

Friend news: Andrea's coming to see me next week!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[No, Seriously...]

I am going to post a real update soon--really I am. I just very much need to get more than six hours of sleep first.
